Sydney Finalise Roster with Lucas Walker

The Sydney Kings have finalised their roster with the signing of experienced power forward, Lucas Walker.

An explosive big man, Walker brings with him a wealth of experience after competing at a high level at local, national and international levels.

A team-first player, “Waxy” comes to the Kings after most recently winning the NBL1 Championship with the Nunawading Spectres and following a successful 3×3 campaign representing Australia.

Sydney Kings CEO Chris Pongrass said that Walker’s athleticism and experience will be a welcomed addition into the Kings line-up in 2019-20.

“We’re excited to finalise our roster and we think Waxy will be a terrific addition to the group” Pongrass said.

“Myself, Will and the Kings ownership group spent a lot of time working through this season’s roster and we think we’ve found a great combination of player’s that compliment each other”.

“As well as some incredible talent, the character of our players was a focal point for us and from what we’ve seen of Waxy within the roles he’s played previously, we know he fits within those expectations” said Pongrass.

“He’s incredibly explosive athlete, an efficient rebounder, and has an unselfish team first approach to the game – we feel he’ll be a great fit for the Kings”.

After playing with the Melbourne Tigers, Melbourne United and then the Adelaide 36ers, Walker signed in Perth as an injury replacement in 2016. Despite his short contract, he excelled in his brief stint and continued as a training player for the remainder of their season.

He was subsequently a member of the championship-winning team in 2017, including winning the Club’s Coaches’ Award for the work he did supporting the team on the floor, as well as his excellent work off the floor in the community.

Whilst with the Wildcats, he also earned a spot in the Boomers Commonwealth Games side that took home a gold medal on the Gold Coast in 2018.

During the 2018-19 NBL season he moved north to vice-captain the Cairns Taipans averaging 6 points and 4rebounds per game.

The signing of Lucas Walker officially completes Sydney’s 12-man contracted roster for the 2019-20 NBL season.

Walker joins, Andrew Bogut, Casper Ware, Kevin Lisch, JaeSean Tate, Brad Newley, Daniel Kickert, Jordan Hunter, Craig Moller, Shaun Bruce, Kuany Kuany and Next Star Didi Louzada as the team’s contracted players.
